Home again, home again, jiggity, jig
Thank you for the happy anniversary wishes :) We had an absolutely fabulous time. We took our time, didn’t make any firm plans so had to be nowhere at any certain time, and we cannot wait to do it again. Here’s the short and “sweet” recap:
Tuesday we toured Hearst Castle. I took a ton of pictures and mentally redecorated my non-existent house a thousand times. We had a fantastic seafood dinner in the local town and stayed up late watching HBO! LOL
Wednesday we got up kind of early, drove to a “whaling” town to have breakfast then took a 15 m.p.h. drive up Highway 1. I was in awe of the beautiful ocean and cliffs and valleys. We arrived in Monterey Bay around 10:00 a.m. After a tour of the aquarium we ate lunch at Bubba Gumps’ (yum, more seafood!) and wandered around Cannery Row for a couple of hours before heading to our very romantic hotel. It had a private balcony that looked out over the ocean, and we even had our own sea lion who “sang” to us most of the night. We walked back into Cannery Row for "dessert" for dinner.
Thursday we headed into San Francisco to arrive on one of the hottest days in history. After partaking of Thai for lunch, we walked down to Ghirardelli Square and up toward Fisherman’s Wharf only to find out that the trolley was closed and we had to walk back up to our hotel. That was the worst part of the trip. We “passed out” on the bed for a couple of hours to cool off, then showered and went in search of sustenance. Chinese for dinner.
Friday we headed back down to Ghirardelli Square and ate breakfast at the Starbucks’ we’d found the day before. Took the trolley to Chinatown where I found a beautiful one-stroke painting before we walked over to Union Square to catch the trolley back to Fisherman’s Wharf. We ate lunch (seafood!) at a historical restaurant and then wandered around the rest of the afternoon before heading back to Ghirardelli Square for a world famous hot fudge Ghirardelli sundae. It took me 30 minutes to eat mine! Stood in line for an hour for the trolley back to our street and headed back to our hotel. Dinner that night was Chinese again, but this time only appetizers.
Saturday morning we drove over to Lombard Street so Husband could drive down it and went over to Coit Tower for some beautiful views. The we headed south. Got home around 6 p.m. and Bandit was sooooooo happy to see us.
Sunday was spent doing a bit of laundry and a whole lot of chair time with Bandit.
It’s good to be home and we’re already planning our next long weekend.
I'll post pictures of our trip and my new nephew in the next couple of days.
