What an unbelievable morning!
As posted on my fave BB.....
I left work at 9:30 to get to class early so I could surf and check up on you guys, but I ran into my Professor Advisor (who I highly respect and just love it when he's teaching a course I have to take) and asked him could I have a few minutes.
I was trying to get the name of a textbook that would have been used for a course that was no longer being offered due to lack of interest. I'm taking a course this term that's a substitute course, but I would like to know what's in that other textbook, for reference. When he asked me why I was wanting to know about that book I explained to him that I had switched from certification as a Paralegal to certification as a Legal Secretary.
I have been avoiding him because I knew he would ask how I was getting on toward my AA in Liberal Arts. I'm 1 math class away from it, and I've been putting it off because I'm horrid at Algebra and the teacher I want to take teaches nights only at another campus. I work until 8 p.m. so I haven't been able to take that teacher.
Anyway I confessed this to my PA today and he started giving me a hard time (which I knew he would). He proceeds to tell me that I'm [] this close to getting certified as a Legal Support Assistant and would I consider getting that and my AA finished up, then worry about the certification as a Legal Secretary and to not completely give up on the Paralegal program.I started telling him that there was no way I could work a 25 hr job, take 3-5 classes and do the 20 hr a week internship required for the LSA.
He tells me to have a seat (I feel like I'm in the principal's office), then he picks up the phone, dials a number and says "I'm returning so-and-so's call." I zone out and start reading some of the info he'd handed me while we were talking and really didn't pay attention to his conversation. I figured since I'd stopped him in the parking lot he was just returning a routine call before he had to get to his class.
Well, next thing I know he's handing me the phone, telling me I'm talking to "Cindy" and "Cindy" proceeds to interview me on the phone for a PAYING intern position! I am so in shock I don't even remember half of what was discussed!
What I do remember is that as far and she and my PA are concerned I'm hired. I have a face to face with the senior partner of the firm on Monday morning at 9 a.m.
It's a Monday - Friday 1-5 p.m. job! I'll be home in the evenings with my family! It's just up the road from where I live and on the way to the campus. Down side is it's a cut in pay and I'll be working 3 hrs less, but I'm determined to make it work and my PA kept telling me that it's a starting rate and that I'll get raises while I'm there.
I cannot believe he did this for me! There are so few paying intern positions available and I'm just beyond estatic that he gave me this chance. But it's gonna cost me, 'cause he made me promise to take that math class Spring term.
I'm scared to death the attorney will say "no!"
Plus I'm worried about when they'd want me to start. I'm hoping they will let me wait to start when Fall term starts. That'll let me give a 2 week notice at this job and still get my 1 week vacation.
Then when I went back to class my professor said she wanted to talk to me after my test. I did some running around for her yesterday hunting down a book that's no longer published that she wants to use in a course this Fall. I thought she was just wanting info about that, but she wants to hire me to work on her disertation for her, which she has to defend in December. I'm flattered, but have no clue as to how to go about it. I gave her my phone number and told her I'd think about it and get back with her.
I never did get the name of that book.
