When driving with the top down:
1. Remind DH to NEVER use the windshield wiper fluid, and
2. Never wear lipgloss!
I'm free from the mad rush of a new term. I had planned on spending the day vegging with Cold Case and stitching and watching Buffy but Husband said it was a beautiful day and decided we were going for a drive. He did at least let me finish my book, then we drove. For 4 hours. Up into the mountains and the clouds (brrrr), to a beautiful old town where there was a bathroom (most important), hot coffee (did I mention it's cold in the mountains, in the clouds?) and delicious pie (pecan for me, caramel apple with ice cream for Husband). I had wanted to go to the "purse place" on the way back but he took me to Escondido and we found a bird store I'd heard about from a co-worker, where I think I found the two next loves of my life (more on that later) and then down the street to my LNS where I bought fabric for my Wee Beasties RR and some blending filament. Did I mention that I was a fool and brought him in the store with me? His comment was something like "so this is where all your money goes." Gotta love how smart this guy is.
Back to the birds. Up until the first half of 2003 I had two beautiful furbabies by the name of Beren and Teufelhunden. Beren (a flat coated retriever) was a first dog for Son and we'd had him since Son was 4, making him almost 16 when he died. Teufelhunden (a dobie) was a birthday present to myself. I got him 14 years ago. They were both big dogs and lived to be very old gentlemen. 2003 was their final year. As dobermans go, everyone was always surprised to hear how old he was. What they didn't understand was these were my children, not just dogs. They lived in the house. They went around the world to Japan and back with me! They slept at my feet while I stitched and snuggled with me when Husband was away to war. I loved them and they loved me and now they're gone. That's been 9 and 6 months ago.
I think I'm ready for new babies, but I don't want another dog right now and Husband says absolutely not to cats for now. So we're thinking featherbabies since we had zebra finches when we first married 20+ years ago. I used to sit and watch them for hours. Of course we also had a cat who liked to sit and watch them for hours and watching her watch them was just as much fun. I thought I wanted a canary (actually still do) but today I saw these two beautiful Gouldian Finches. I've only ever seen pictures of them and was just blown away by their plumage. I absolutely L O V E purple and these beautiful birds have that. I went to the shop looking for a cage and stand since I want to get everything set up and then find a pair of birds, but today I found them! I think if the shop is open next Sunday I'll be bringing home a cage. If we'd been in the truck today instead of my bumble-beemer I would have the cage already set up! LOL
Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday. I'm in a pool at work and have some pretty good numbers. Sure would be nice to win a quarter or 2 or 3 or 4 to help pay for a new birdcage :)
So we're back from our long relaxing drive. We drove through some beautiful country and would love to buy a house in a couple of the small towns we went through. I'm relaxed (but my feet are still a bit cold) and now we're trying to decide what to do for supper. It's early yet so there's still time to veg in front of the TV and maybe even stitch on Spring Queen some.
P.S. Can someone please tell me where January went?
